President William Ruto ordered inspections of public service vehicles after a bus and truck collided near Mtito Andei on the Nairobi–Mombasa highway on October 25. Police told AP that at least 24 people died and 24 were injured.

Citizen Digital reported that the president’s directive sought compliance with safety standards. The Roads Ministry said investigators were examining the collision and promised further road-safety measures. The injured were treated at hospitals serving the area.

Accounts of the collision mechanism differ, so the cause remains a matter for the investigation. The Roads Ministry said it would work with Parliament, police, the judiciary and county governments on further safety measures, while the collision inquiry proceeds.
