Somalia received 220 citizens repatriated from Yemen at Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle International Airport on October 20, Dawan reported, quoting Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Mohamed Nadaara. The returnees included families who had spent many years in Yemen and people born there, bringing the effects of the country’s renewed conflict to a reception operation on the other side of the Gulf of Aden.
The Foreign Ministry and UNHCR jointly coordinated the return, according to the report. Nadaara said the flight was the third repatriation operation of 2026 and that more than 1,500 Somali citizens had returned through such operations since the beginning of the year.
The arrival gives a completed movement of people a place within the wider Yemen emergency. UNHCR has reported more than 250,000 people displaced inside Yemen between August 1 and October 17. The passengers received in Mogadishu belong to a separate cross-border return operation, organised around Somali citizens seeking to leave the conflict.
Receiving families at the airport marks the end of their flight and the beginning of their return to Somalia. The ministry’s account places the completed journey within continuing cooperation with UNHCR as fighting and disrupted services make life harder for people remaining in Yemen.
