A strike on Nyala’s Almawashi livestock market killed at least four people, including a child, and wounded eight on October 16, Médecins Sans Frontières said. The wounded received care at MSF-supported Nyala Teaching Hospital. The charity’s account places a civilian market and the hospital receiving its casualties at the centre of the latest attack in South Darfur.
Radio Tamazuj and Sudan Tribune reported a higher toll of at least 30 dead and 47 wounded, citing medical sources. Those accounts describe the same market attack. Sudan’s army said it had struck Rapid Support Forces targets in Nyala, according to regional reporting. MSF’s account identified the casualties treated through the hospital it supports.
The attack follows the earlier deadly strike reported at Abu Shandi in Blue Nile, a separate event involving displaced people. The two locations illustrate the spread of civilian emergencies across Sudan’s war, each with its own witnesses, medical response and reported toll.
In Nyala, the immediate consequence was the arrival of wounded market-goers at a hospital already serving a city within the conflict. The medical charity’s report establishes the care provided to eight injured people and records children among those affected by the attack.
