PUNT NEWS

Independent Horn of Africa Journalism

Editorial Standards

PUNT NEWS treats accuracy, attribution and a durable correction record as publication requirements.

Verification

Material facts should be verified before publication. Primary and authoritative sources are preferred where available. Reports identify uncertainty and do not convert an allegation or official assertion into an independent finding.

News and analysis

News reporting separates factual findings from interpretation. Analysis states its evidentiary basis. Opinion, if introduced, must be clearly labeled and visually distinct from news reporting.

Sources and documents

Named sources are preferred. Important stories should link to public records, official statements, datasets or other materials when those sources can be shared lawfully and safely.

Images

Every image requires a traceable source and applicable permission or license. Archival images are labeled as archival and are not presented as photographs of a current event. Generated illustrations, if used, must be clearly identified.

Corrections

Material factual errors are corrected promptly. Corrections state what changed and are recorded against the same permanent Story ID.

People and communities

Coverage uses respectful, specific language and avoids collective blame based on nationality, religion, ethnicity, race or other group identity. The actions of a government, political organization, armed group or individual are not attributed collectively to a population.
